Discovered how to make only 2 smart sizes!

I’ve been searching for a way to have just 2 smart “Sizes” for my ami pattern. There is a simple or advanced color change method that changes multiple rows and I didn’t want to burden those who just wanted the simple pattern with the advanced half color change round instructions.

BUT— smart sizes only work for 3+ sizes… Until I figured it out!

In Ribbuild under Sizes, I put:
Simple (Advanced, )

** The space after the comma makes all the difference!

Then you can select which “size” each line refers to.

This would also be perfect to make a left-handed/right-handed pattern just by selecting the size!

I’ve tried to tag everyone that I can find that has been asking for this feature.

People have been asking Ribblr for a 2 size option since Aug 2020

Aug 2020 thread about 2 sizes

I especially liked this comment by @anon5108995 in June 2023.

In May 2023, there was another thread asking for this feature. Talked about by @OBabyNMore , @HookedByMarilyn , and @anon5108995

Interesting. I bookmarked this post to try later. Now I need to create a pattern to try it …

Wow that is really cool, my mind is not working but what would you use this on? Like a simple dress vs a color changing striped dress?

Multiple uses:
1)What it was meant for- when you have multiple sizes of beanies or socks or something S, M, L, XL, XXL or child, youth , adult. The person selects the size from the drop-down and only the lines of the pattern meant for that size show up. Previously, no one could figure out how to only have 2 sizes: like S, L or something as the smart feature didn’t turn on until 3 options were listed. Even Ribblr stated that making it work for only 2 wasn’t really on their list.
2) I’m currently testing for a sunflower pattern from @Babycakes where there is different instructions depending on if you have one color petals, or two color petals.

In the pattern it says to scroll past an entire section that you don’t need. With this feature, the program will hide the extra sections or lines that don’t apply to your make.
This will help any pattern that has 2 or more options. Like a bunny with two different ear styles, or a whale/orka whale pattern.
3) Creating left-handed and right-handed patterns without having to have a separate pattern. I’m left handed. I actually flip my demonstration pics so that the pics match what the majority of crocheters are making. I’d like to not have to create a separate pattern for other lefties like me, so I’m going to have people select whether they want to see the left-handed “size” or right-handed one. If they don’t select, they will see double lines of the pattern with a colored tag indicating which lines are used for which pattern. Much better to select the one they want from the drop-down and only see the parts of the pattern that apply to their chosen “size”.

Ribbler has this video to explain the feature. In the video it says 3 or more options, I just figured out how to do it for 2 options. :)

Sounds fun. Tag me in the 2 size pattern when you make it? I’d love to see it working for others.

Well done! :tada: You’ve uncovered a hidden feature! I just wanted to share that we’ve got a cool setting in the accessibility menu for left-handed and right-handed crafters. You can choose your dominant hand, and we’ll show you interactive charts and tutorials tailored just for you!

I did know about that. It currently doesn’t help with demo ppics. I wish there was an option to flip pics as a maker so I don’t have to flip other people’s pics mentally. I talked about left-handed settings I wish was available in this post:
Left-handed designer and maker options.

With this 2-option feature at least I can do the grunt work to make it available for makers.

That is such an awesome idea! Great job on making this one of the options!
