Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know about something coming up.
So July is ADA Pride month. It is NOT like LGBTQ+ Pride, it is to bring awareness to all the people who have struggles and issues with aspects of their life due to health or neurological disorders. The flag has a meaning in which color each one means.
I fall under the Gold and White categories because I have undiagnosed Selective Mutism. It has been hurting me mentally (and relationships) ever since I was very little. I could not speak to anyone, literally.
I would love to spread awareness for a month dedicated to another kind of pride. A kind that seems to be looked over and ignored for a lot of ppl.
ADA Pride month is just as important as LGBTQ+ Pride month, it celebrates those who are struggling, or who have overcome their struggles. And it mourns those who have died in the process.
Just a reminder that EVERYONE is included. No matter who you are. Whether you are LGBTQ+ like me and have June to celebrate you, are part of ADA Pride month, also like me, and have July to celebrate you, or if you are just simply a person who exists. You matter. You can do this.
We celebrate you.
Happy July and ADA Pride month a little early, and also Happy LGBTQ+ Pride month. You deserve happiness, whoever you are and wherever you are. Everyone is loved.
Edit. And I just thought of a great idea. If we could form a team of crafters, maybe could we come together and create items specifically designed for this month? Just an idea to help spread awareness
I figured that but didnt know for sure. I will start a gc about it and add ppl as they reply, then in the gc I will give more details on what I was thinking. ^^
Love this idea! I hadn’t heard about this until now and it really cool that you are raising awareness through crafting. I would love to make a crochet item for this cause!
I didn’t even know this was a thing! So interesting, and i find it kinda funny cuz july is my birth month and i have undiagnosed ADHD and Osgood-Schlatter Disease + not sure what else lol XD ( not sure if these are included in ADA month)
(had to look up the name. the basic overview of it is “Osgood-Schlatter disease is caused by irritation of the bone growth plate. Bones do not grow in the middle, but at the ends near the joint, in an area called the growth plate. While a child is still growing, these areas of growth are made of cartilage instead of bone. The cartilage is never as strong as the bone, so high levels of stress can cause the growth plate to begin to hurt and swell.” - Johns Hopkins Medicine Good news is that it isn’t forever and it doesn’t hurt as much (Still hurts sometimes or everyday minimally) anymore)
Oh my gosh! I had no idea about this but I love it! I would love to do anything for it! Tag me in any other posts about this bc it is awesome! I love what you are doing on here and bringing awareness!
I didn’t know this existed but I love it!! Love the idea for the team of crafters too, I won’t be able to join, but I think it’s a great idea and thank u for spreading awareness!
