Hello guys!! I got a cat today, and I’m really excited! His name is Aston, and he’s a completely black 6 yo and I love him!! He’s also a rescue, his old owner died. He was found in a cellar, dying. But now he’s alive, and in my apartment, sniffing curiously in every corner! (And sometimes snuggling, as he does now with my mom)
Here’s how he looks like, I think that’s what most of you might want to know :>
Soo, any tips from all the cat owners out there? Preferably how to build up trust, as he’s already scared of my dad after he picked him up to show him where the litter box is…
Let them explore the house on their own, don’t pressure them to go anywhere if they don’t want to
Don’t make any sudden gestures/movements, especially towards them (like grabbing or reaching to pet)
Especially for the first few days, try to establish a routine for things like feeding
Congrats on the new addition to your family!
So cute!
I fostered one of my cats when she was a kitten. She had been in a fire and had burns all over her I Dont really know how to built up trust… cats will usually trust you after a while
Omgg congratulations!! Cats are the best! I have one to! Treats work well to build trust. Also, I recommend to have your cat in one room for the first week, it is not a must but it is more calm for your cat and it is easier to build up trust and litter train your cat. PLEASE DO NOT LET YOUR CAT GO OUTSIDE (if you want your cat to be outside sometimes) THE FIRST 2 WEEKS!!! this is because your cat won’t see your home as it’s territories before it lives at least 2 weeks with you. If your cat sees your home as its territory it won’t walk away! also HE IS SUCH A CUTIE
Cuteeee
I have two cats and I recommend keeping your cat in one room so they can get a territory especially for the first week. Be nice and gentle and dont force them to do anything scary.
