Sorry I didnt clarify what I meant with that. Some ai crochet stitches look very funky and definitely cannot be real. I didn’t mean perfect stitches but unnatural ones :)
Hi Ribbot! What I look for is if the looks too polished. I’ve seen a doll standing but it doesn’t look like it’s leaning on anything or it doesn’t look like beads are used.
I appreciate your stance on Ai patterns. Before I found Ribblr I struggled with Ai patterns. And it’s frustrating. Thank you!![]()
Ahh that makes much more sense.
Thanks for clarification.
Look for words on the backgrounds and below the “makes” they’re usually blurry but you can probably make out some of it, check and see if the “designer” knows what the words are.
Look for almost identical pictures on google (or your preferred search engine) using image searching
Check if it has strange features, like an extra wing. If there is a bit of warped background it is also probably ai, the stitches also look irregular and sometimes not even like crochet stitches. They also look too perfect, or stand by themselves with no support
some tips to spot an Ai pattern is whether the picture looks “too perfect” such as the lighting of the picture or even the background of the picture. As well, stitches may look out of place and look “incorrect”

Some ways you can look out for AI patterns:
-The stitches in the pictures are questionable looking~just look at the examples everyone has put in! You’ll know when you see them
-there isn’t a magic ring in the pattern even though the picture clearly shows one
-there are pieces that are impossible to use yarn to attach/make (e.g. real whiskers and mouths, realistic non sewed/crocheted eyes, impossible positions)
-they’re are impossible stitches! Like @NovaRaineCrochet has said, do a reverse image search before you come to this conclusion!
Here’s a tip: if you think a tester call picture is AI, ask for other angles of the make! Usually from this, you can tell if it’s ai or not.
Look out for ai patterns everyone, and hope this helped!
•Weird looking stitches
•the backround looking not right
•if there are multiple photos and the crochet looks different in every photo (i dont mean just different angles) :)
- The stitches look too perfect to be made by an actual person
- The way the amigurumi stands
- The way the patterns instructions are written
- The SHADOWS, like they are in weird areas
- The way it curves in some amigurumi
ONE WEBSITE TO AVOID COMPLETELY PUNKA AMIGURUMI EVERYTHING THERE IS A.I.
any way hope this helps… somehow ![]()
Stitches will look out of row. Thats like the on
ly thing i look out for
Hmmm I guess the stitches usually have this really strange shiny lighting? Also the eyes will look like they’re eyes on an actual animal and not a plushie, if that makes sense. Like plucking the eyes off an actual dog image and putting it on a plushie
If it is to good to be true
ai stitches always look a little funky, too perfect, or even just don’t make sense!! ![]()
Welcome to RIbblr!
All of the stitches look way to perfect and a normal crochet has a certain imperfectness and that’s what make it beautiful ![]()
I’ve seen things like looking for peoples hands, like if someone’s holding it up, you can look at the eyes, the stitches, and I personally rely the most on lighting, in most AI patterns they have unnaturally pretty lighting and it’s mostly never outdoors pictures.
i have a board to collect the patterns that show up on my feed, I called it AYEYE AF. it was easier to start with - oh dear fingers and WedThursFri teeth, but it has really improved lately. now i see even experienced crafters getting caught out. I can’t really explain how i suspect Ai, but it goes like this_ OOOOH _ nice! OH hang on - wait a … oh no!
When you can see that the stitches just don’t make sense!
Okay so my tips to spot ai crochet patterns are these.
-
Make sure it reasonable
See how the ears and nose look. That look probably can’t accomplished with today’s crochet knowledge -
Look for anything weird
The front paws in this photo have a big problem. THEY ARE NOT ATTACHED TO THE DOG! -
Go with your gut
This might just be for me, but if you think it is ai with one look at the pattern. It probably is
Pay close attention to the background. If it has yarn or a crochet hook/ knitting needles that are a much different size than the object, it could be AI. However this isn’t fool proof, as some people (like me
) size down hooks/needles.
