Over the last 6 years Ribblr has grown a lot ![]()
We are now a busy community with thousands of posts every single day.
Much like your pattern feed on Ribblr, our aim is to keep you in control. After all, this is your Ribblr ![]()
We have a lot of features to help you do just that.
So here is a quick guide on how you can make sure you see and get notified about posts you’re interested in.
By the way- you can also use the ‘bookmark’ option to save this topic, so you can use it as a guide in the future.
Change notifications for one topic
Each topic (aka an entire thread of posts) comes with a notification bell icon.
Tap it to select:
-
Watching - get notified about every new reply
-
Tracking - see the number of new replies, with notifications only when someone replies to or mentions you
-
Normal - only get notified when someone replies to or mentions you
-
Muted - receive no notifications and hide the topic from your feed
For busy giveaways, postcards or community games, we recommend selecting Normal or Muted if you do not want to keep seeing new reply counts. This can also help your community feed load faster.
Control entire tags or spaces
Spaces cover broader subjects such as Crochet
, while tags help you control more specific types of content such as daily or meme.
You can watch, track or mute entire tags and spaces from your notification preferences.
You can choose:
-
Watched - get notified about every new post
-
Tracked - see a count of new posts without being notified about every reply
-
Watching First Post - get notified whenever a new topic is created, but not about all the replies that follow
-
Muted - receive no notifications and hide those topics from your feed
This can help you mute entire spaces or tags from your feed. And you can edit it whenever you like. For example, we have a lot of Personal spaces
that aren’t neccesarily about crafts. If you don’t wish to see them, add them to your muted spaces.
You can also choose default behavior, for example to never track a topic automatically after posting.
Choose notifications, and what and who to follow
At the top of your notification preferences, you can also decide what to be notified about, whether people can follow you (and get notified) and more.
You can even create a custom notification schedule if you would prefer some quieter hours.
Choose which emails you receive
Note: this is separate from pattern related emails (find those here)
Your email preferences let you choose when we should email you about:
- Personal messages
- Replies, quotes and @mentions
- Activity in watched spaces, tags or topics
- Chat direct messages and group chats
- Activity summaries
Many of these can be set to Always, Only when away or Never.
If you have the Ribblr app, we’ll prioritise notification over email, using these settings, for everyhing apart from PM (we’ll send both).
Mute or ignore individual users
You can also control your interactions with individual users.
-
Muted - suppresses notifications, personal messages and chat direct messages from that user. You may still see their public posts.
-
Ignored - also hides their posts and messages from your view
You can also choose whether everyone can send you personal messages and chat direct messages, or only specific users.
These controls are private. The other user will not be notified if you mute or ignore them.
Take control of chat
Chat is completely optional. It’s intended for causal conversations and we have rooms for craft talk or general talk.
If you do not want to use it, you can turn it off from your Chat preferences.
If you do use chat, you can:
- Join channels that interest you
- Leave channels you no longer want to follow
- Change notifications for individual channels
- Control who can send you direct messages
To find more channels, open Chat and select the pencil icon. To leave a channel, open its information by clicking the title and select Leave channel.
Review our guidelines and WIKI
All of these settings only change your own experience. They do not remove content, affect anyone else’s account or tell another member that you have muted something.
